The Canterbury Choir of St. Philip’s Church is in its final preparations of traveling to
Canterbury, England, for the International Children’s Choir Festival 2019. Thirty choristers will be taking part in this exciting and moving experience. The International Children’s Choir Festival has taken place in Canterbury and London since 1997, and this year is the seventh time that our choir has participated. Many St. Philip’ s families feel that Canterbury is a “home away from home” for their families because all of their children have attended this festival.
I found this description of Canterbury on the internet:
"Canterbury, a cathedral city in southeast England, was a pilgrimage site in the
Middle Ages. Ancient walls, originally built by the Romans, encircle its medieval
centre with cobbled streets and timber-framed houses. Canterbury Cathedral,
founded 597 A.D., is the headquarters of the Church of England and Anglican
Communion, incorporating Gothic and Romanesque elements in its stone
carvings and stained-glass windows."
While this is an accurate description of the city of Canterbury, these words cannot
convey how special Canterbury is to us. As the seat of the Anglican Communion, the
cathedral means so much to us as Christians––it's a place where our church choir
family feels at home. The festival is also a place where many choristers have found a
renewed passion and excitement for singing. This year we have a long list of new
choristers experiencing this for the first time.
Please pray for travel mercies for the Canterbury and St. David Choirs as their journey
takes place from today, July 20, to August 6.
